PSC lecturer conducts AL Workshop at SQU
Dr. Zahra Zargaran, Preparatory Studies Center (PSC) lecturer, held a workshop entitled ‘Using Active Learning Strategies to Increase Students' Engagement in Language Productive Skills’ on 14th March, 2024 at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Muscat, Oman.
Active learning (AL) is an approach that increases students' engagement, hence classroom interaction. This approach can propose a broad range of teaching strategies to involve learners to enhance the quality of learning outcome. Active learning is an approach that can be implemented in all areas of language teaching pedagogy including language skills and language elements, grammar and vocabulary.
The workshop was presented as a session slot integrating language productive skills, speaking and writing and will provide teachers with a bunch of practical activities to make teachers aware of what, how and when of using AL strategies in their classes.
It was attended by 65 teachers from SQU’s PSC- English Unit. Participants were able to learn about active learning (AL) approach in teaching pedagogy; develop or modify their cognition about AL in their teaching; promote their practical repertoire; and equip their practicum with some Al strategies and techniques.
