IT Department Inducts Diploma I Students
A series of induction-orientation programs to new Diploma IT students was held last Sunday to Thursday, October 4 to 8, 2015 at Rooms A-150 and A-034. The induction-orientation program aimed to inform and educate the students about the academic system, policies and procedures, specializations offered, available student services and support, counseling services, and extra and co-curricular activities. On the other hand, to ensure high percentage in attendance, the Student Support Services Committee agreed to conduct the induction program in a classroom-based venue.
In this event, Mr. Greg Danguilan, Mr. Mir Abid Ali, and Ms. Malathi Gopinath discussed the overview and profile of the IT department and the specializations offered. Mr. Madhavan Sridharan and Mr. Umesh Setty presented the academic system, related policies and procedures, and other academic matters that serve to guide the new students in obtaining the desired Cumulative General Point Average (CGPA) and avoid entering probation status. In addition, Ms. Kalithem Mohammed Salim Al-Jabri, ETC Technician, informed the students of the student services offered by the Educational Technology Centre (ETC). Mr. Ahmed Al-Farsi, acting head of Counseling and Graduates Follow-up, facilitated an in-depth discussion on probation, how to avoid and move out from it, learning styles and study habits, and related matters. Some advanced diploma and bachelor IT students volunteered to give testimonials and share their experiences to the new students.
