Bachelor major in Networking students visit Sohar Aluminium
Bachelor students, currently enrolled in Disaster Recovery and Risk Management visited Sohar Aluminium, Suhar, Oman, on November 04, 2018.
The industry visit aimed to provide real-time exposure on standards, policies and procedures on disaster management which are being observed and implemented in the Industry. This visit allowed students to know the different software and tools being used, and enriched their knowledge on disaster prevention and risk reduction.
IT Engineer Mr. Waeed Al Mamari (Backup Team of IT Section) was the first session’s resources speaker who tackled the basics of IT terminologies. He then explained the different types of backup techniques, network monitoring tools, and the different backup units available for the company. He also demonstrated the tapes used for taking the backups.
Afterwards, IT Leader Engineer Mr. Saif Ul Islam (also from Backup team of IT Section) gave a short lecture on virtualization concept being implemented in the company. He discussed about the Infrastructure used in the company which is comprised of 175 virtual machines. He gave also details about the Site Recovery Manager tool used for Disaster Recovery.
Environment, Health and Safety Head Mr. Shoukath explained about the importance of health and safety inside and outside the company premise. He briefed about the golden rules which are the life safety rules and diamond rules of safety to be followed. He emphasized that every accident is a cause of either the behavior or conditions which was actually an eye opener for all people who drive.
All resource speakers answered the queries raised by the students and faculty members.
Later, Mr. Saif Ul Islam accompanied by his team, took the group to the Data Center of the company and briefed them about the architecture, shown the data backup facility, different servers and services, etc.
Everyone was stunned by the hospitality given by the Sohar Aluminium team.
The students were accompanied by Networking Lecturer Mr. Rajesh R.K., and IT Lecturer Mr. Justin Rajashekaran.
