ETC Involve IT Students in New Computer Deployment
The Educational Technology Center (ETC) involved nine (9) IT students, namely Bader Al-Sheedi, Said Al-Saidi, Zuhair Al-Sheyadi, Amal Al-Nofli, Sara Al-Badi, Mohammed Al-Shehhi, Buthainah Al-Ajmiah, Humaid Al-Isaee, Mohammed Al-Jabri in actual deployment of new Dell i5 computers to the Computer Laboratory on March 17, 2015. Fostering student-centered learning, the students' involvement in practical activities was given a greater emphasis, which aimed at enhancing their technical skills and knowledge.
The four hour activity started with an orientation given by Mr. Ronaldo Abaya, which covered the step-by-step process of deployment, a demonstration on how to use the materials, and health and safety measures. Then, Mr. Syed Irfan demonstrated the proper unpacking of computers to protect both equipment and the students from injury. Mr. Ajith Kuriakose also shared techniques on the proper organization of materials.
After the orientation, students started to uncrate the computers, connect the peripherals, format the computers and install all needed programs in Computer Laboratory 6 using Windows Image. Mr. Melvin Belarmino provided usernames to students to configure each new computer. Students were also taught to connect all computers on the network domain and label the computers with specific names. Ronaldo, Syed and Ajith supervised the entire activity and they answered all of the queries of students.
Mohammed Al-Shehhi openly expressed that the training was excellent and interesting and would like to have more like this, which was agreed upon by all participants with enthusiasm.
The ETC will continue to coordinate with various Academic Departments in order to empower students and to provide more opportunities for them to learn and grow in the IT field.
