ShCT conducts Annual ELT Workshop
Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) sponsored The 7th Annual ShCT ELT Workshop on 16 April 2015.
More than 200 participants from different colleges and universities throughout Oman attended the workshop, dubbed as “Current Trends in ELT: Exploring Possibilities.”
Plenary speaker Mr. James Scully, Head of the Faculty Academic Support Unit in the Language Centre of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), shared concepts that could be explored and mapped-out by the teachers to stimulate the students to use language through devices they understand. He also showed samples of free applications and websites which could be used by the teachers to engage the students in the teaching-learning process.
Featured speaker Mr. Ahmed M. Al Mata’ni, Head of the Genral Education Department at the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS), suggested an approach known as the ‘flipped class.’ He drew upon his experience of using the flipped classroom for creating a conducive learning atmosphere. He also added that teachers should tailor their teaching style to satisfy the needs of the learners.
Said event was spearheaded by the Head of English Language Centre, Staff Support Committee and Staff Professional Development Team led by Mr. Ali Abdullah Al Balushi, Mr. Saif Salim Al Washahi and Mr. Senthil Kumar Devarajan, respectively.
