Seven English Language Center (ELC) lecturers participated in Dr. Victoria Tuzlukova and Ms. Anne Gilhooly’s presentation entitled “Engaging students in community-based projects: Focus on critical thinking, problem-solving and language skills” held at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Muscat, on April 30, 2015.

Sponsored by the ELT Professionals Network (ELTPN) British Council, the session was based on the presenters’ experience of teaching at SQU. It aimed at building a case for community-based projects as learning activities that can have a positive impact on the development of students’ problem-solving, critical thinking and language skills.

The presenters also gave some practical recommendations for constructing community-based learning projects for language learners in Oman.
