The Engineering Department, in coordination with the On Job Training Department of Shinas College of Technology, organized an industrial visit to TMK GULF INTERNATIONAL PIPE INDUSTRY LLC, Sohar for its Advanced Diploma and Bachelor project -B Mechanical students on 21-05-2015 at 8.00AM.

Faculty members Mr. Sachpreeth Singh and Mr. Babu accompanied the team of students. Ms. Alexandra and the staff of TMK industry received the student team.

Mr. Said Al Hashmi, HSE Manager, whom explained about the activities carried out in TMK industry, initially briefed the students with a seminar on HSE. Then the Production Controller and QA in-charge given a detailed description about various activities and processes that are taking place in the industry and later taken to the field. During the visit they observed different units like a high pressure tube mill, which is capable of making Electrical Resistance Welding (ERW) tubes in of length up to 18 meters, and pipe diameters from 8-24 inches and a thickness of 4-25.4 mm. In the bay they observed a high frequency welding unit and other related fabrication units for coating processes to protect the life of the tube with 3 layers. Later the team was taken to see the facilities of QA like UTM, Hardness Testing machines etc.

This helped the students understand how tubes are fabricated in real time as well as coating techniques in heavy manufacturing industries.
