SHORT TERM TRAINING PROGRAM ON PUMPS AND VALVES
The Engineering Department conducted a short-term training program on pumps and valves from 8.30 am -12.00 pm to the staff of STOMO LLC from 26-04-2015 to 29-04-2015 at B-001 in the Engineering Building.
A team of fifteen staff of STOMO accompanied with the faculty members Mr. Babu, Mr. Niyaz Ahmed and Ms. Devibala.
The staff of STOMO were initially briefed with a small introduction about importance of the topic by the HOD Dr. Mohammed Al-Washahi. Later the sessions started with the general theory behind with various valves, types of valves and their applications in the industry. Then the students were taken to the multipump test rig to perform practical approaches to finding water power, mechanical power and pump efficiency and using different types of pumps like gear pumps, centrifugal pumps, diaphragm pumps& vane pumps for the first two days.
For the remaining two days, the STOMO staffs were given an introduction to pumps and its classifications, pumps advantages, the working principles of centrifugal pumps, velocity triangles, work done by impeller pumps in both series and parallel (multistage pumps) and the operational difficulties with centrifugal pumps.
These sessions helped the staff of STOMO to understand how real time operations can be carried out in industry from characteristic curves to choosing discharge and the total head of the pump.
