Industrial visit to Consolidated Contractors Company(CCC)
The Civil section of the Engineering department of Shinas College of Engineering organized a one day industrial visit to Consolidated Contractors Company, Oman LLC on 12thMarch 2015 for B.Tech students. Mr.A.Kandasamy, lecturer/Civil section and Mr.MohammedAshfaq, technician/Civil section of the Engineering department, accompaniedour students for this industrial visit. Ten students of the B.Tech& Advanced Diploma of the Civil engineering section attended the visit.
The purpose of the visit was to gain practical knowledge for the students related to their subjects and their projects.
The project is located in the Batinah region on existing Batinah highway in the Wilayat of Sohar, the Sultanate of Oman. It consists of the construction of an interchange in place of the existing roundabout along with the associated works. The total length of the project along the Batinah highway is about a four km stretch whichwill be converted from four-lanes to six-lanes.
We visited the CCC office at Falaj. In their office Control manager Mr.RaedShbaklothe gave brief information about the project to us.
Surveying has been done before laying roads. The levels of natural surface and detour finished road are found. Then cutting and filling has been done accordingly based on the level.
They explained the longitudinal sectioning and cross sectioning drawings of the highway. The layers of the pavement are Sub-Base, Aggregate Base course, Bituminous base course, Bituminous wearing course. The utilities/services for the highway are placed under these pavements. In the middle island of highway Lights, Radars and Traffic signals are placed.
Then they explained the construction of deck slab and reinforcement details in the deck slab. They explained the procedure of laying of Bituminous wearing course during the visit.
