The Engineering Department in cooperation with the OJT department arranged a visit to the waste water treatment plant which is under the supervision of Shinas Municipality on 7 Oct, 2015. Seventeen Advanced Diploma Civil Engineering students, along with Dr. Nisha and Mr. Mohammed Ashfaq, visited the waste water treatment plant.

Mr.Hussain, the engineer in Shinas Municipality received the visitors. The plant technician and Mr. Hussain jointly explained the different stages of waste water treatment process. Further, they explained the procedure of pretreatment filtration, preliminary treatment, oil separation and aeration. Additionally, Mr. Hussain and the plant technician familiarized students with the last step in which the treated water is ready to be used for irrigation purposes. Students got to understand that the solids which settle during the treatment can be used as a fertilizer. The visitors also got the opportunity to see the disinfection and nitrate removal units.

The students were able to observe the process of waste water being turned into potable water.
