The Engineering Department, in coordination with On-The-Job Training department of Shinas College of Technologyorganized a site visit for the Civil Engineering section B-Tech students. On 30^th, March 2015, the students along with the course teachers and SHCT staff, visited the ongoing Batinah Expressway project in Oman.

In the beginning students were taken to the camp base and were informed about health and safety. They were then moved to the site, accompanied by Mr.Mohammed Oudah, the construction project manager, where the precast pre-stressed girders were being cast. Mr. Amit Palande, construction manager from Fressinet Arabian Sea LLC, speciallygave a live demonstration of post tensioning the girders.

Furthermore, the undertaking of fabrication and tendon-profiling was explained. Thereafter the students were taken to the bridge construction site where the Abutment and Pier construction work was in progress. Students were made to understand the formwork, reinforcement arrangement, and the casting of the abutments and piers.

Next they visited the concrete and asphalt batching and stone crushing plant. Finally,the students visited another bridge site where piling work for a bridge foundation was in progress. The piling was being carried using Auger.

These SHCT students, who are at the doorstep of graduation, were inspired to escalate their confidence and were given a feeling of professional work in practice. The visit was very fruitful. It ended with a lovely treat sponsored by the Consolidated Contractors Company.
