IT conducts SITAM 2019

The Information Technology (IT) Department conducted its 2nd Symposium of IT and Applied Mathematics (SITAM) 2019 at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Engineering Building, on November 6, 2019.

Sponsored by Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries (ORPIC), the event was participated by lecturers and students from Colleges of Technology (COTs), College of Applied Sciences, private colleges and universities.

The ceremony kicked off with the singing of the national anthem, followed by a recitation of the Quran.

After that, College Dean Dr. Ahmed Al-Mamari warmly welcomed the participants, while IT Head Ms. Amina Al Jabri delivered her speech on the department’s research activities.

Acting Dean of the College of Engineering, University of Tehran, College of Farabi Dr. Mohammed Jafari and Huawei Oman Project Director and Manager Mr. K. S. Rao served as the program’s resource speakers.

During the event, 30 research papers were presented by lecturers, 10 posters designed by students were exhibited, and five parallel technical sessions were conducted by all participating colleges and universities.

International College of Engineering and Management lecturer Dr. Riyad Mahfud and Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) lecturer Ms. Bushra Al Mammari scooped the ‘Best Research Paper Presentation’ award in the Mathematics and IT Department categories, respectively.

Dr. Mafhud discussed his paper titled “Study of Riser Reactor Design using Simultaneous Ordinary Differential Equations”, while Ms. Al Mammari elucidated her paper titled “Measurement and Optimization of AP Placement and Channel Assignment in Wireless LAN”.

For the ‘Best Poster Presentation’ award, students Rahma Mohammed Al Abdulsalam, Heba Ahmed Al Fazari and Aisha Juma Al Farsi of the College of Applied Science presented their project poster titled “SOS Oman”, while Amal Rashid Al Naaimi, Asmahan Nasser Al Darai and Raja Ali Al Mushrafi of Ibra College of Technology explained their poster “Uni Bus Tracking”. The two groups tied for third place.

Students Mohammed Al Kindi and Ahmed Al Nabhani of Higher College of Technology placed second for their project poster titled “Smart School Bus”.

Presenting his project poster titled “Solar Powered Drip Irrigation System - Effective Energy & Water Saving Solution for Sultanate of Oman”, ShCT student Ahmed Hamood AL Mezeini of ShCT secured the first place.

Director General of Technological Education Dr. Abdulhakeem Hilal Al Ismail graced the event.
