ShCT ELC hosts webinar
In its aim to address the challenges facing the Teaching fraternity in the current circumstances, the English Language Center (ELC) of Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) hosted a video conference on “Higher Education (English Language Teaching) in Oman Beyond COVID-19” on June 30, 2020.
Seasoned educators and ELT Research practitioners were invited to speak on various aspects of the topic.
Dr. Ali Al Issa, a renowned expert on ELT issues in Oman and abroad, and also an Associate Professor at Sultan Qaboos University, shed light on “Pedagogical Challenges-Teaching and Learning Related Issues,” while Dr. Nadia Al Issaee, the English Program Director for Colleges of Applied Sciences (CAS) under the Ministry of Higher Education and Mr. Qasim Al Washahi, the CAS Deputy Program Director, underscored the significance of Academic Integrity in Remote Learning.
On the other hand, Mr. Nasser Al Hindasi, Head of ShCT- ELC provided an overview of the research conducted by the Center, which shed light on learners’ perceptions and concerns regarding teaching and learning in the midst of the pandemic.
The ShCT- ELC Post Foundation Coordinator Ms. Safiya Al Makhmari shared her experiences and the struggles her team encountered during the execution and assessment of the Post-Foundation Final Assignment which was conducted online. Finally, the ELC E-Learning Committee member Mr. Peter Hurst discussed some points on the study he is currently conducting entitled ‘English Language Student Interaction with e-Courses- a case in an Omani College of Technology.’
The video conference was attended by participants from different institutions in Oman and other countries like Pakistan, India and others.
The event was organized by the ELC Staff Support Committee headed by Mr. Given Chakalisa.
