ShCT’s student organizations conduct Reading Initiative Week
The English Club and Literature and Culture Group of Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) in collaboration with Sawaed Al-Khair Group organized ‘Reading Initiative Week’ with the theme “The Reading Notion: Return Back to Read” from February 11-15, 2018.
Various activities were conducted such as exhibition, workshops, debates, discussion and seminars. The book exhibition was held on the second floor of the Main Building and the ground floor of the English Language Center (ELC) Building. On the other hand, Mr. Nasser Hindasi, Head of Section (HoS) - Curriculum and Teaching Method Section, ELC, and Mr. Naeem Al Farsi, Administrative Specialist, Vale Company, facilitated the workshops conducted at Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH), Engineering Building. The presenters emphasized the importance of reading in general.
The English Debate Competition was conducted in the ELC Building with participants from both Foundation and Post- Foundation Program. The first session discussed if reading is worth more than listening or watching videos while the second session argued whether experience is more important than qualifications or qualifications is more important than experience.
The students also conducted seminars held in the Main Building, highlighting the importance of reading and discussing the challenges students may face while reading books.
On the final day of the event, ShCT’s Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Mr. Ali Abdullah Ali Al- Alawi awarded plaques as token of appreciation to the presenters, organizers and students who participated and brought success to the conduct of the said week-long activity.
