ELC aims to increase student engagement; conducts workshop on games
In its aim to increase student engagement in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, ShCT’s English Language Center spearheaded a workshop on games at the Multi-Purpose Hall, October 26, 2017.
ELC lecturers participated in the workshop dubbed “Using Games to Boost Students’ Engagement in the Classroom.”
Aimed to foster motivation and boost student engagement in the EFL classes, the workshop featured several games for the different skills.
Seven educators—Mr. Hamed Al Qasmi, Ms. Amal Al Jahwari, Mr. David Woelke, Ms. Maryam Al Aufi, Ms. Hajarah Bano, and Mr. Ossama El Sayyad—presented interactive games that may be used in teaching Listening, Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Vocabulary.
The guest presenter and former ELC lecturer, Mr. Hamed Al Qasmi, engaged the participants as he introduced a novel game that he designed and called it “Grab It.”
At the end of the workshop, ELC Head Mr. Ali Abdullah Al Balushi expressed gratitude to the presenters as he bestowed a certificate of appreciation to each of them.
The workshop was organized by ELC’s Staff Support Committee headed by Mr. Given Chakalisa.
