Mechanical Engg studs visit Stomo Power Plant
A group comprising of 18 Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering students visited Stomo Power Plant, Sohar, on November 8, 2018.
Stomo Health and Safety Officer Mr. Yakoob Al-Saadi gave a brief presentation about the plant while Training Coordinator Mr. Hariharan demonstrated to the students various safety procedures followed in industries, operational and maintenance processes for producing the power and converting the sea water into distilled water.
During the visit, they also observed the plant’s major equipment like gas turbine of 123 MW each, Hybrid burners for premix and diffusion mode operation with both natural gas and distillate fuel oil are used for NOx control, supplementary fired HRSGs (Boilers), condensing steam turbine, and multistage flash evaporation vessel and brine heater.
The operation and maintenance of the plant is carried out by Stomo under a contract with the owner, Al-Batina power.
Said visit was arranged by the Industrial Liaison Committee of the Engineering Department.
