Engineering Dep’t organizes Engineering Day 2018

The Engineering Department (ED) in coordination with the Engineering Club of Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) conducted “Engineering Day 2018” on May 9, 2018.

The event was comprised of a number of events including project exhibition by engineering students, various technical seminars by industry experts, and discussion forum by the Department’s alumni.

The program was inaugurated by Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Mamari. Dr. Ahmed along with the guests visited the project exhibition held at the lobby of the Main Building.

Various projects from Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Sections were displayed. In the project exhibition hall, there was a dedicated corner for projects on renewable energy. Students had the opportunity to explain to the guest the details of their projects, challenges they encountered and possible future improvements.

After the project exhibition, ED Head Dr. Mahmoud Khazalah welcomed the gathering to the event stressing on the benefits of such events and the expected outcomes.

Technical seminars from the industrial experts started with the topic “Health and Safety Practices in Engineering” by Mr. Said Musallam Al Hashmi, HSE manager, TMK Gulf International Pipe Industry L.L.C Company.

In addition, three technical seminars followed. Seminar for Electrical Engineering students was on “Electrical Power Engineering: its importance and applications” by Mr. Sultan Ahmed Al Risi from Orpic. Seminar for Mechanical Engineering students was on “Maintenance of Mechanical Equipment’s - types and importance” by Mr. Adil Ibrahim Al Balushi from GASWAY LLC. Seminar for Civil Engineering students was on “Oman rules and regulations for civil engineers” by Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Kindi from Shinas Municipality.

Engineering Day 2018 provided an open discussion forum with the theme “Current Trends, Opportunities and Challenges in Job market” between the current students and some of successful alumni from the Department. Students were benefitted from the experiences shared by the alumni.

Engineering Day 2018 opened channels of communication between the engineering students and alumni. The alumni expressed their gratitude to the College and came up with ideas to enhance their contribution to the College. One of the alumni, Ms. Fatma Al Ajmi from Oman Construction Company L.L.C (TOCO), announced 31 Job training with placement based on performance to Engineering graduates. Alumni are keen to contribute to the Department by offering themselves as resource personnel for short term training in various disciplines of engineering fields, both for the students and staff.
