A group of 21 Bachelor in Electrical Power Engineering students visited Voltamp Power LLC, Sohar Industrial Area on November 23, 2017.

Mr. Mahesh Aphale, ED lecturer, accompanied the students who familiarized themselves with the components of power transformers, materials used, manufacturing process and testing.

HR and Admin Manager of the company, Mr. Yousuf Al Shafey, welcomed the group. Mr. Fahad, HSE officer of the company, inducted the group about safety precautions needed while inside the company. Engr. Abdulmajeed Al Moqbali and Engr. Khalid Al-Roshdi, ShCT alumni employed in the company, toured the group to the workshop and to the HV test laboratory, respectively.

At the workshop, students observed winding process, lamination stacking, transformer assembly and baking arrangement. In the HV testing laboratory, the only one of its kind in the Sultanate, the students observed impulse generator, waveshape generating components, impulse chopping arrangement, variable reactor setup for generation of HVAC, BDV test setup for transformer oil and variable frequency supply system for the laboratory. The engineers enthusiastically explained the setups and test procedures and made the visit interactive and fruitful.
