With the guidance of Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mr. Ali Al Alawi, the Civil Engineering section of the Engineering Department (ED) designed and supervised the construction of an access bridge which can be used as a shorter route from the English Language Center (ELC) Building to the Main Building.

The bridge construction was carried out by Alawtad Alhadithah Trading & Contracting Company. The construction, which started on November 6, 2019 and was supervised by the company’s engineer-in-charge and ED technician Mr. Mohammed Ashfaq, was completed on November 17, 2019.

Mr. Ali Al Alawi and Dr. Mahmoud Khazalah, Head of the Civil Engineering Section, planned and scheduled the project’s various phases. 

Eight Diploma Civil Engineering students enrolled in Engineering Surveying were given the task to level and survey the area of construction, while ED lecturer Mr. Mohammed Ashfaq prepared the structure’s preliminary lay-out and design calculations.

The detailed plan and structured drawings were made by Civil Engineering technicians Ms. Muna Salim Al Issaei and Mr. Karthick Babu. Engineering lecturer Mr. Prakash Kandasamy prepared the Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for the planned activities as per the specifications and standard.

In addition, during the construction of the new bridge, Project students from the Civil Engineering section visited the site and acquired practical knowledge related to the stages in bridge construction.
