ShCT holds meeting with ORPIC

Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) hosted a meeting with Oman Refineries Petroleum Company (ORPIC) held at ShCT Conference room on May 21, 2018.

Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Al- Mamari headed the meeting attended by Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Mr. Ali Abdullah Al- Alawi, On-the-job Training (OJT) Department Head Ms. Fatma Al- Shibli, Engineering Department (ED) Head Dr. Mahmood Khazalah, and Engineering- Electrical Section lecturer Dr. Ahmed Al- Balushi.

ORPIC was represented by Mr. Salim Al-Saadi (Lead Planning Officer), together with Technoment Company (main contract with ORPIC) Branch Secretary Ms. Zainab Al- Saidi, Alemco Zawawi Company (Sub- contract with ORPIC) Project Manager Mr. Steven Thomson, and Mr. Omar Al- Jabri, Mechanical Engineer.

The meeting was held to foster better relationship between the College and ORPIC. Dr. Ahmed started by welcoming ORPIC representatives to the College.

Mr. Salim Al- Saadi explained the ‘In Country Add Value,’ referring to all services that has been submitted by ORPIC to the community. As a response, Dr. Mahmood Khazalah gave a brief presentation about the Engineering Department stating the specializations offered, the number of students, the level of studies, and the staff qualifications.

A short tour in the Engineering Building workshops, laboratories and classrooms, led by Dr. Khazalah while explaining the methods and way of teaching and stating the needs of the Department was also organized.

At the end, both parties agreed that a training program from July to August will be offered during summer vacation for engineering students who are interested to be trained by Alemco Zawawi Company.

Furthermore, Mr. Steven stated that a list of materials and pieces of equipment might be used and offered to the College.

Dr. Khazalah will submit a list of what the Department need, and everything will be properly communicated with Mr. Salim Al- Saadi via e-mail. Mr. Salim will coordinate with OJT Department to support them with contract & subcontract details to support Civil Engineering Students with a real construction learning.

Dr. Ahmed concluded the meeting by expressing his deep appreciation for the team for their initiative and visit, wishing a lasting cooperation between ShCT & ORPIC.
