IT Department spearheads 2nd IT Alumni Gathering
The Information Technology (IT) Department spearheaded its 2nd Alumni Gathering at the Multi-Purpose Hall, on March 6, 2019.
IT Head Ms. Amina Al Jabri welcomed the audience and inspired the IT alumni to keep in touch with Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) and the IT Department to promote mutual collaboration and provide beneficial alumni activities.
Ms. Amina gave a rundown of the IT Department’s accomplished activities for Academic Year 2017-2018.
A video presentation of the 1st Alumni Gathering on November 17, 2017, and IT Department’s achievements and milestones was then exhibited.
Sohar Aluminum Business Applications Supervisor Ms. Afaf Al Shibli, the gathering’s special guest of honor, shared her knowledge on the current trends of the IT industry, particularly in the Sultanate of Oman.
Ms Afaf identified Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing as fields of specialization that will offer great career opportunities for IT graduates in the near future.
She further emphasized that communication and self-study skills are vital to those who would like to engage themselves in the above-mentioned IT areas.
Ms. Afaf’s talk was followed by a panel discussion headed by panel members Information Technology Authority (ITA) E-Service Division Web Developer Ms. Sara Al Mamari, Ministry of Education IT Technicians Mr. Mohammed Al Jabri and Mr. Hussain Al Balushi, and Tradebe Services LLC Fahud Site Manager Mr. Mohammed Al Quwaitei.
Joined by IT Alumni Ms. Amira Mohammed Al-Balushi and Ms. Afra Al-Kaabi, the panel members shared their experiences and journeys in building a successful career, answered students’ queries, and shared their thoughts about employment and career opportunities.
The IT Alumni expressed their gratitude to the College, the IT Department and its staff for honing their knowledge, skills and attitudes towards employability. They also recommended some approaches to further improve the quality of IT graduates ShCT produces.
The event was graced by ShCT Dean Dr. Ahmed Al Mamari.
