English Club Hosts Exciting Debate Competition for Foundation Students
The English Club at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Shinas organized an engaging debate competition for Level 3 and Level 4 students. The event featured 30 participants divided into six teams, with both boys and girls taking part. The topics of the debates included "TV is the Leading Cause of Violence," "Reading English is More Difficult than Writing English," and "The Only Purpose of Social Media is to Waste Time."
Students and staff enthusiastically attended the event, which took place on 14th May 2023, and showcased the public speaking and persuasive skills of the participants. A panel of judges, consisting of lecturers from the ELC, evaluated the teams and determined the winners. The "Halima Team" from Level 4 emerged as the champions, impressing the judges with their strong arguments and delivery. The "Deema Team" from Level 3 secured second place, leaving a lasting impression on the judges and the audience.
Certificates and awards were presented to the winners and participants by Mr. Hamdan Al Abri and Ms. Amal Al Jahwari, the Heads of Section. The English Club expressed their gratitude to all the participants, judges, and attendees for their active involvement and support. Mr. Hamdan Al Abri commended the event's success and credited it to the determination of the Level 3 and Level 4 students, as well as the excellent leadership and coaching skills of the English Club members. Ms. Razwana Khawaja supervised the competition and appreciated the English Club's dedication to fostering critical thinking, effective communication, and mutual respect among peers.
The English Club plans to organize similar events in the future to provide more students with opportunities for growth and engagement in intellectually stimulating debates.
