IT Alumni Committee Hosts Successful CV Writing Workshop for Students and Alumni
On 2nd May 2023, the IT Alumni Committee of UTAS Shinas organized a CV Writing workshop for students and alumni. The event, which ran from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, was held virtually via MS Teams and saw the participation of 62 attendees. The workshop aimed to train students and alumni on how to write a strong CV to prepare for their job search and increase their chances of being pre-selected in the hiring process.
The workshop was led by Mr. Basit Sultan, an English Lecturer of the English Language Center (ELC) at UTAS-Shinas, with over 10 years of English Language teaching experience and a Master’s degree in English Linguistics, International Relations, Education, and an MBA from the United Kingdom. Mr. Basit began the session by emphasizing the importance of having a well-written CV, as it is frequently the first impression that employers have of prospective candidates. He then went on to give helpful hints and advice on how to build an effective CV, such as the components of a CV, how to highlight one's talents and accomplishments, and how to tailor one's CV to specific job requirements. Mr. Basit provided examples of CVs geared to the IT profession, business, engineering, and even students looking for part-time work.
Participants were also given the opportunity to ask questions about writing a tailored CV and gained a deeper understanding of what employers look for in a CV and how to improve their own. The event was deemed a success by both the organizers and attendees, with many expressing their appreciation for the valuable knowledge and practical skills gained from the workshop. The IT Alumni Committee plans to organize similar workshops and events in the future to continue supporting students and alumni in their professional development.
