ELC Conducts Workshop on Experiential Learning
The Staff Professional Development Team at the English Language Centre organized a workshop titled ‘Experiential Learning in the Classroom’ on 6th October 2022. The Presenter, Mr Chad Mclennan, an English lecturer at UTAS Shinas, explained the benefits of using the experiential learning approach to add variety and keep students engaged with novel activities for student-centered classrooms. McLennan added ‘experiential learning has greatly enriched my classes, particularly in terms of student engagement and enthusiasm’ A brief overview of the theory behind the approach was given followed up with practical examples on how to use the approach. Participants took part in activities to practice teaching methods such as the ‘Silent Way’ and ‘Differentiated Instruction’ for increased student engagement. The workshop was attended by ELC lecturers and lecturers and UTAS Shinas staff. Mr Saif Al Weshahi, Head of the ELC presented a certificate of appreciation to the presenter. Mr Ossama Sayed, co-ordinator of the Staff Support Committee said the workshop provided useful examples for teachers to use in class, as effective tools to reduce TTT and to improve students’ learning outcomes.
