About Accounting ( AS )
The overarching goal of the accounting program is to meet the evolving needs of the students and the department through teaching, research, and service. The program provides knowledge in accounting and finance. The course is an integrated overview of economic activities of a business entity. In simple terms it is the systematic recording, reporting, and analysis of financial transactions of a business.
Accounting allows a company to analyze the financial performance of the business, and looks at statistics, such as net profit. It also reveals profit or loss of a given period, and the value and nature of a firm's assets, liabilities and the owners' equity. Accounting also provides information about the resources that are available in a firm and the different ways in which the resources are financed and used. In accounting, an accountant is required to follow a set of rules and regulations, such as the International accounting standards and International financial reporting standards.
The Accounting department under the able leadership of its HoS, Ms. Iman Al Rubaie seeks to provide knowledge and skills to students in both basic and advanced skills of accounting.
The Accounting Program covers the following courses:
Principles of Accounting 1 and 2, Cost Accounting 1 & 2, Accounting Application by Computer, Corporate Accounting 1 & 2, Intermediate Accounting 1 & 2, Management Accounting 1 & 2, Auditing and Control 1 & 2, Research Methodology, Production and Operations Management, Banking and Insurance Accounting, Government Accounting, Portfolio Management , Project appraisal, Contemporary Issues in Accounting, Business Law, Financial Analysis and Control, Computer Application in Finance, Accounting Theory, Forex Management, Graduation Project, Taxation Accounting, Formal Arabic Communication and Oman Civilization.
The Accounting section offers the above mentioned courses with the aim to prepare and place students in a position to enhance their career and equip them to support the Sultanate of Oman.
